Here is my attempt at trying to explain why I believe what I believe. Shouldn't everyone KNOW what they believe? I get the impression that most of us drift through life going from one glowing rectangle to the next and just exist without thinking about why or where or how.

This will more than likely take a few posts and since it is late I will take it one step at a time. First off is truth. If I were to ever get a tattoo it would say / mean / depict truth. There is absolute truth. This is one of the most important things I wish every Ayn Rand reading college student with a philosophy minor would admit. The statement "there is no truth" cannot be true because it is in fact making a truth claim. Another popular one among college professors is the law of empirical verifiability. It states that a proposition can only be meaningful only if it is true by definition or if it is empirically verifiable. Again, the principle of empirical verifiability cannot be true because it is not true by its own definition nor is it empirically verifiable. You get the picture.

Now, if there is truth then there must be false. Anything that is not true has to be false. This is known as the law of non- contradiction. And by the way only someone who claims to know the truth has any right to point out false. Otherwise he is basing his accusation on his own presuppositions. This is a good lead in to relativism....... another day.
